crazy tourists!

I'm packing my bermuda shorts, and Gerald, his Hawaiin shirt. We're loading our Carribean sounds CD onto our itunes account and we're headed to the Bahamas! It's our anniversary, and too many times we have let it pass without celebration. Not enough money, too heavy a workload, too many kids needing too many things....
This time the stars aligned just right and we are sailing off into the wild blue yonder.
AHOY!

Out of the Woods

...and home before DARK! The songs are still jangling around in my head! But the run is over, and things can get back to normal. (yea right).  Here is Jessica in her tree, as Cinderella's mother.

Just a baby herself, and already leading other children into the wonderful world of theater, with the help of Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella's prince.

They brought home the nearsighted giant's glasses. Now what are we supposed to do with THOSE? 

Now, both of my kids are out of the Woods, but they'll never be the same. They learned that good is different than nice, that opportunity is not a lengthy visitor, and slotted spoons don't hold much soup.

Hopefully they learned some other important life lessons in there, too!

Into The Woods

My daughter is playing in her first community production, Into the Woods. Here are a few of their promo shots, none of which shows her. Jessie's part is a small part, but she plays it beautifully.

The set is mind-blowing, not only visually but logistically, each piece is designed to pull off 2 or more different parts. These books open up to the interior of each character's house and then play another part in the finale with even more artwork on the back!

The carriage is life-sized and fully operational!

Rapunzel's tower, though you'd never guess it here, is Cinderella's mother's tree on the other side!

The costumes are fantastic! Some were borrowed from another theater, so we are being extra careful with them.

Opening weekend sold out and a complete success! Congratulations ALL!

Can't keep me down!

My paints are not totally dried up. I am doing something!

This is my son, though in real life he much more handsome.

Opening night at the Thea-TAH is tomorrow night! Jessica has a part and Rubin is a stage-hand and I am helping with costumes and changes backstage (on some nights).

It's community theater, Jessie's first experience other than school and church. She got a small part, with a small song, to begin with, but the director has expanded her part to include another song and a costume change, and she'll be in the finale instead of in a stationary position.  It is exciting and exhausting. I'll probably post a little in the next few weeks on how the production is going.

She has already been asked to audition for two upcoming productions. She is living her dream and I am proud.
In the meantime, I am sewing or painting very little and am missing it. Maybe I will adjust to the new pace and carve out some creative time.

Ugly #3 is done. Uglies #4 and #5 are a pair and are out on the table.

What in the world am I to do with all these Ugly quilts and quiltlets when they are piled up and finished?!? I have the space to just let them lounge around my house for years, but that is not the point! Shouldn't I be looking for good homes for them? I don't like them, for the most part, they are quilt mutts, starting out as one thing and ending up another. I should open a Quilt Pound and adopt them out as sweet and loving, but somewhat ugly quilt mutts.

If any mutt catches your eye and you can provide it a good home, let me know. Be Warned that if you ask, it's probably yours even AFTER closer inspection. LOL!

Feeling Blue

Do you have color moods? I sure do! I go for months at the time, strongly attracted to one color or the other. In the quilt shop, it seems, all I can see is that color. I have been through these color moods with some strange choices. When it was orange I bought enough orange fabric to make all the kits I'll ever need for all my future bleach discharge classes, and that is a lot of orange! One time it was taupe. What a strange color to be attracted to! But, at the time I just couldn't get enough of it, I just was so drawn to it. Maybe I have CADD (Color Attention Deficit Disorder). Hmm.

This time it started with the Christmas nativity I made. I just HAD to have those blue spotlights. Then I started on the ugly box. I was able to finish the first 2 uglies without any emotional tug at all, just finish the darn thing so it can be done. Then I got to Ugly #3. It was a painted panel that was a reject from a recent quilt.

 It was too silvery in color, too contemporary for the look I was after. I pulled it out and actually got interested in some possibilities. Jessie came home and said, "Nice colors." That in teen talk means, "Wow Mom, that is awesome, you are a wonderful artist and I love what you're doing here!". Okay, maybe not. I'm kinda liking the colors and the ideas too, so it gets priority space.

Then I have to reset my enrty hall china display from Christmas to winter. Well it just happens to be white, silver and Grandma's blue glasses.

Jessie has a small part in the musical, Into The Woods, at the local theater. Her costume needed at belt, guess what color her costume is!

So, for some unknown reason, I am in a blue/grey/silvery mood. I'll try to hurry Ugly #3 along before the mood changes to some other color.
