I love to set a pretty table, something we never did when I was growing up in Crandall Pasture. The dining room table was Grand Central Station in the Parker house. Of course, there were 2 or 3 meals daily for over 1/2 dozen people. But then it was cleared for cutting out patterns for clothes, covered with newspaper for the latest painting project, canning pear butter, shelling butterbeans, wrapping fresh cut meat and the evening coffee social where you could find 3 or 4 generations sitting around discussing life.
Now the dining room is just for setting a pretty table. I sure do miss those butterbeans.
